CAC includes food certificates in its annual budget to be distributed monthly to organizations we partner with, to families as needed, and included in Holiday Baskets. They are often given to families to help off set other expenses they may have.
CAC members shop for and assemble clothing and products for 18 layettes for newborns per month, to be distributed through Children's Diagnostic and Treatment Center by a visiting nurse. This gives the nurse a chance to meet with the mother an new born at home and to assess the home environment and family structure. Often the nurse will use the items in the layette to teach the mother how to care for her newborn.
Each year Children's Aid Club prepares and distributes over 150 Easter, Thanksgiving and Christmas food and gift baskets to needy families referred by local schools and organizations.
Children's Aid Club members assemble the baskets and deliver them to the families or the organizations that referred them. Over 500 people benefit from the holiday baskets each year.
Each month, CAC members bring a birthday party, honoring the children who have a birthday, to the Broward Partnership for the Homeless and low-income day care centers and pre-schools. It includes hats and a gift for the honorees, and a cake for all to share. The BPHI party includes family members and other children at the center. We also do an Easter Party, complete with a visit from the Easter Bunny and a Holiday Party with a small gift for each child.
